Smart lighting creates a pleasant, connected space that encourages a harmonious coexistence between the community and the environment
Calvaria de Cima is a parish in the municipality of Porto de Mós which has experienced a substantial population growth over the past decade. In order to provide this population with a modern, environmentally responsible green space, the local authorities, led by Jorge Vala, acquired a plot of land measuring around 15,000m² to build the new Calvaria de Cima Ecopark.
Lighting to enhance and extend the user experience
This new green space makes the most of an area with an abundance of water and includes sports facilities, a playground area, a trail, an outdoor dining kiosk, various pieces of urban furniture and an amphitheatre. To extend the park’s operating hours and improve its night-time appeal, an integrated lighting solution was essential.
Elegant FLEXIA FG luminaires mounted on truncated cone columns with EVEN brackets provide general lighting across the park. VALINTA SCOPE floodlights were installed on a FOCUS mast to subtly highlight the intersection of the main footpaths and improve wayfinding.
To further enhance the visitor experience, three SHUFFLE poles, each equipped with a WiFi hotspot, have been installed in strategic locations around the park. Thanks to these additions, residents can now enjoy their neighbourhood well into the evening.
Lighting to minimise energy use and environmental impact
When designing this new space, the municipality wanted to minimise its energy consumption and the impact of the artificial lighting on the park’s fauna and flora. We proposed the FLEXIA FG luminaires and the Schréder EXEDRA control system to address these concerns.
Lighting with FlexiWhite to respect circadian cycles
Most of the FLEXIA FG luminaires are equipped with our FlexiWhite solution to respect the natural rhythms of day and night, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for visitors, as well as the animals and plants that inhabit the park.
The FlexiWhite solution achieves this by adjusting the colour temperature throughout the night according to the following colour temperature regimes:
