DIABOLO PROJECT FOR MORE MOBILITY AROUND BRUSSELS AIRPORT

The Diabolo Project ensures the accessibility and road safety around the Belgian international airport. For this, new road infrastructures and a railway-connection between Brussels airport and the network of high-speed rails were established.

The new road infrastructure comprises a secure and fast road connection with a viaduct to the Brucargo-site. The roads are lightened with 218 functional Ipso luminaires. 48 Thylia luminaires are installed on top of the viaduct, whereas 69 Neos luminaires lighten the road under the viaduct.

The new railway-connection was realized by drilling a railway tunnel under the airport’s runway. The MY2 luminaire fulfilled the strict safety criteria. 860 MY2 luminaires lighten the tunnel, which has a length of 1000 m.

The soft road users weren’t forgotten in this project. A new bicycle tunnel, cycle paths and bridge were constructed. 62 Saphir 1 luminaires guide the cyclist through the dark.
