Improved safety and visibility with 40% energy savings
The local authorities of Echallens, just outside Lausanne in Switzerland, launched a lighting replacement scheme after an audit in 2010 revealed that 75% of the luminaires (mostly fitted with mercury lamps) needed to be replaced in the near future. They decided to upgrade their entire lighting scheme to more energy efficient LED luminaires and replaced all of the luminaires in 2014.
The main roads are lit by the Ampera Midi (64 LEDs) installed at a height of 8m while residential streets are lit by the Ampera Midi (32 LEDs). These modern LED luminaires diffuse a brighter white light for improved visibility and safety.
The Calla LED was chosen to light one of the main squares featuring a child’s playground thanks to its high visual comfort and distinctive design which enhances the landscape. The Fito LED bollard was chosen to light one residential area.
The local authorities are delighted with the results as they have dramatically improved the lighting levels while reducing the town’s carbon footprint and energy costs by 40%.
