SCHREDER HELPS TO TRANSFORM THE BUSY BRUSSELS RING ROAD WITH AN LED LIGHTING SOLUTION

The 6-lane Anderlecht section of the ring road around Brussels has the highest traffic density in Belgium as commuters travel in and out of the capital city and vehicles transit from the coast to mainland Europe. In 2012, the Brussels-Capital region decided to take advantage of new LED technology to replace the luminaires equipped with low-pressure sodium lamps lighting this 6km long section.

This relighting plan had several objectives:
To improve safety and comfort motorists
To reduce energy costs
To decrease maintenance costs
“Brussels Mobility Department decided to replace the luminaires which diffuse a weak yellow light by LED luminaires which provide a white light with optimal colour rendition. This white light provides excellent visibility to see obstacles on the road and avoid them“ explained Brigitte Grouwels, Minister for Public Works and Transport at the inauguation on 15th May.

The Teceo 2 (136 LEDs) equipped with the Owlet remote management system was the ideal luminaire for the task in hand. The remote management system will dim the luminaires to 3 different lighting levels during the night providing a 35% reduction in energy consumption.

Dimming pofile

10pm – 12am : 70%
12am – 4am : 50%
4am – 6am : 70%
6am – dawn : 100%

The luminaires provide a bright white light which meet the lighting standards required (1.5cd/m2) and will maintain the initial performance over time.

This optimised lighting over a long life span will dramatically reduce maintenance operations and divide costs by 7, which is a major advantage given the busy traffic on this motorway.

Schreder was delighted to help the Brussels-Capital Region achieve their objectives by providing a sustainable lighting solution for a safe and comfortable environment.
