LAMEGO LIGHT RENOVATION PLAN

Warm nocturnal ambiance with 70% energy savings

This city in the Douro Valley is an important historic and cultural centre, boasting a very rich architecture with the ruins of a 12th century castle, Renaissance mansions and the monumental baroque Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.

In 2013, the local authorities decided to renovate the lighting in the city centre to enhance the city’s heritage. The new lighting plan had the double objective of improving the quality of life for its residents by creating engaging public spaces where they would want to spend time thus boosting social interaction and local businesses and revitalising tourism.

Conscious of their environmental footprint, the local authorities also wanted energy efficient lighting. Schréder proposed the ideal solution; a lighting scheme with LED luminaires and a remote management system. The Douro LED fitted with the Owlet control system lights the streets and roads while the Ribeira LED was installed in the squares and parks. The Neos LED mounted on columns was chosen to light the 686 steps leading to the magnificent Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. The Douro LED luminaires are dimmed during the night, when there are few people in the centre.

The local authorities and residents are delighted with the results – the new lighting has created a warm and welcoming nocturnal ambiance with a significant 70% reduction in energy costs and CO2 emissions!
